Iglesias will negotiate with Sanchez a "Cooperation Government"

11.06.2019

The leader of Unidas Podemos advances that, from now on, they will begin a series of discreet meetings.

The big breakthrough is that they have now agreed on what to call it. It will not be a coalition government, as we could wish, not a single government, as the PSOE said. It will be a "cooperation" government. And from now on a complex discussion opens up to see what that means. For the PSOE, implies that there will be independent ministers agreed with Podemos. "We will look for formulas for a plural government with relevant personalities in their areas," Iglesias told the president who will explore it, "it is an inclusive government, not closed as the coalition government," said Adriana Lastra. For the group of Pablo Iglesias, this means that the ministers will be there for them to decide and correspond to them "without vetoes", as he himself said.

When they have asked him openly if he will be in that Executive, something that seems to be one of the central stumbling blocks of the negotiation, Iglesias has insisted: "The time of the vetoes has passed." "I do not conceive that the PSOE puts a veto, we will not do it," he finished. Lastra did not want to rule out that Iglesias is in that Executive, but it is evident that this is not the option that the PSOE is looking for in this negotiation, which from now on will be much more discreet. The background pulse remains, and remains tough, but the situation has changed a lot because the message that has been moved on Tuesday is completely different than on Monday, when José Luis Ábalos threatened to even force an election if it was not accepted the conditions of the PSOE.

Iglesias has renounced the name of coalition government, but not the idea. With a serious face, the leader of the purple formation has assured that the important thing is that there will be an Executive with Podemos. "The important thing is the contents" and that materializes in "a plural Government to face future challenges". "I do not think he is lying to me," said the leader, who has shown his commitment to complete the purpose he has pursued since last April 28.

The name of "Cooperation Government" chosen by Sánchez will not be a stumbling block for Iglesias to sit down at a negotiating table. "A joint government is a joint government, put the name you want," has settled. "From now on we will start more discreet meetings Pedro Sánchez and I," Iglesias has advanced after a meeting in Congress that lasted about an hour and 20 minutes. In the previous appointment, in La Moncloa, the two leaders were more than two hours together.
